Chelsea forward Fernando Torres has conceded he feared he would be left out of Spain s squad for Euro 2012.
The 28-year-old s chances of making the squad for Poland and Ukraine had been placed in doubt after he was omitted for the friendly match against Venezuela in February as a result of his poor form at Chelsea.
Torres inclusion in Spain s provisional Euro 2012 squad is a strong sign he will make the final 23-man cut, particularly with fellow forward David Villa out injured.
He said he was relieved to be part of coach Vicente del Bosque s plans again.
Asked if he feared missing out, Torres said: Yes, I saw myself out of the list. I never received a call with such enthusiasm.
Spain have won the right to be called favourites and we have to accept this tag, but it is worthless because you have to prove it on the field.
Three titles in a row is something no-one has done before. If we can achieve it we will be a world reference because people will be talking about this generation for many years.
After an injury-hampered 2010 World Cup campaign, Torres sent a message of support to Villa, who was ruled out of the tournament with a broken leg sustained in December last year.
I can only send my support, my love, my esteem and personal admiration, Torres said.
Villa deserved more than anyone to be at the Euros because he has proved to be essential for this team.
We will miss him for sure. And if the absence of Puyol is confirmed, then these will be two very important absences for us.
