Everton v West Brom: Martinez wants Goodison fortress

Roberto Martinez wants Everton to make Goodison Park a fortress in the final months of the Premier League season, starting against West Brom on Saturday.

Everton have struggled at home in 2015-16 with only four triumphs from their 13 league matches, the most recent of those coming against Newcastle United on February 3 to end a sequence of five without a win.

Luckily their away form has kept them in the top half of the table with 13 games to play, Martinez s side only losing once all season on their travels – a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in October.

The Spanish manager wants that resilience to be transferred to their remaining home matches as Everton look to keep building towards achieving their Champions League qualification ambitions.

Arsenal 1 Swansea City 2: Gunners´ title bid continues to falter

Arsenal s Premier League title hopes suffered another major blow as they went down to a 2-1 home defeat against struggling Swansea City on Wednesday.

Joel Campbell put Arsene Wenger s men into an early lead, but Wayne Routledge s first top-flight goal since December 2014 had the visitors level.

The Gunners hit the woodwork twice in the first half through Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud, with the Chile international doing so again after the break, a few moments before Ashley Williams  scruffy close-range winner stunned the Emirates.

Arsenal were heavily criticised for their defeat at Manchester United on Sunday and have now only won two of their last eight league fixtures at a crucial stage of the campaign.

Northern Ireland 2 Czech Republic 0: Evans and Brunt on target as O´Neill´s men close in on World Cu

Northern Ireland edged closer to a World Cup qualifying play-off place as they secured a top-two finish in Group C with a 2-0 win against Czech Republic at Windsor Park.

Michael O Neill s men had been made to work for victory in San Marino on Friday but a 3-0 success ensured they would need just a point from this fixture to pull clear of their opponents.

And the hosts earned a fifth straight triumph as West Brom duo Jonny Evans and Chris Brunt the former the subject of heavy interest from Manchester City during the transfer window found the net to ensure that a first World Cup finals since 1986 remains a real possibility.

Czech Republic had dropped to fourth place before kick-off with Azerbaijan s thrashing of San Marino and their slim hopes of qualification wer…

Ingolstadt 1 Bayern Munich 2: Lewandowski double seals Bundesliga title

Robert Lewandowski netted twice as Bayern Munich clinched a fourth successive Bundesliga crown with a 2-1 win at Ingolstadt.

The Bavarians title party was postponed last week when they failed to beat Borussia Monchengladbach, before they were dealt a further blow in midweek when they crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of Atletico Madrid.

But a sublime performance from Lewandowski ensured Pep Guardiola and his men finally had reason to celebrate.

The former Borussia Dortmund man opened the scoring early on from the penalty spot and doubled his side s lead just after the half-hour mark with his 29th Bundesliga goal of 2015-16.

Moritz Hartmann pulled one back for Ingolstadt late in the first half, again from the spot, but an impressive per…

Belgium 5 Tunisia 2: Lukaku and Hazard shine as Red Devils run riot

Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard both scored braces as Belgium crushed Tunisia 5-2 to all but secure their place in the World Cup knockout stages.

The Red Devils just need England to avoid defeat to Panama in Sunday s other Group G game to confirm their last-16 spot and no team at Russia 2018 will want to be drawn against Roberto Martinez s side after this swashbuckling display.

Belgium were dominant from the outset, taking a 2-0 lead inside 16 minutes through Hazard s penalty and Lukaku s fine finish.

Dylan Bronn then handed the African side an unlikely lifeline before Lukaku who scored twice in the opening 3-0 win over Panama restored Belgium s lead to become his country s all-time top scorer at major tournaments with seven goals.

Hazard netted his second …

Premier League not toughest, says Guardiola

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes the Premier League still has steps to take to become the toughest domestic club competition.

Guardiola is into his second season in charge of City, having won three LaLiga titles – and two Champions Leagues – at the helm of Barcelona and three Bundesliga crowns with Bayern Munich.

But the Spaniard said the Premier League was not yet the most difficult, pointing to the records of English clubs in Europe.

Chelsea were the last English side to reach a decider in the Champions League, claiming the trophy in 2012, with Spain (six times), Germany (two) and Italy (two) the nations with finalists since then.

I know you like to hear, it is the toughest one, congratulations . You are the most viewed, Guardiola sai…

Foyth and De Paul included in Argentina squad

Juan Foyth and Rodrigo De Paul have been called up to the Argentina squad for the first time ahead of friendlies with Iraq and Brazil.

Tottenham defender Foyth, 20, is still yet to make a Premier League appearance for the club despite joining from Estudiantes 13 months ago for a reported £8million fee.

He was an unused sub for Wednesday’s EFL Cup tie with Watford, with Spurs eventually progressing in the tournament after a penalty shoot-out.

Nevertheless, the former Argentina Under-20 international could make his first appearance for the senior side next month when they face Iraq and rivals Brazil in Saudi Arabia.

Caretaker coach Lionel Scaloni is experimenting with his options and could also hand a debut to De Paul, who has enjoyed a wonderful start t…

Sturridge linked with Liverpool exit

The Mirror understands that Daniel Sturridge is ready to consider leaving Liverpool as he bids to feature at next summer’s World Cup finals.

The England international was once again an unused substitute as Jurgen Klopp’s side thumped Southampton 3-0 at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

He was also left on the bench for the 4-1 win at West Ham United earlier in the month, despite netting in each of the two games previous to that.

Should the twenty-eight year old become available, a number of sides are likely to register an interest while a loan move could also be an option.

Sturridge moved to Liverpool from Chelsea in January 2013 and has since racked up one hundred and thirty-one appearances in all competitions, scoring sixty-three goals.

Dele Alli agrees Tottenham extension

Dele Alli has committed his future to Tottenham, signing a contract extension that ties him to the Premier League club for the next six seasons.

Alli has penned a new deal that runs until 2024, which would see his association with Spurs stretch to nine years after moving from MK Dons in 2015.

The 22-year-old quickly established himself as an integral part of the first team at Tottenham, striking up a lethal partnership with England team-mate Harry Kane.

In his 153 competitive appearances for Spurs, Alli has scored 48 goals with two of those coming this season.
